My Inspiration
This is my sister Claire who passed away on 13 November 2007 and my brother Paul who passed away 13 weeks later on 08 February 2008. They were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth. While they were both diagnosed with an extreme version of the illness, this had little bearing on their zest for life which was far greater than many of us who are fortunate enough to have a clean bill of health.
I wanted to give something back to the charity organisation The Butterfly Trust (Registered Scottish Charity No SC 033174. www.butterflytrust.org.uk) that helped both myself and my family cope with the difficulties that Cystic Fibrosis brought whilst also providing a variety of services in the community for people affected by CF. On 03 July 2008 I organised a dance/fashion show to raise money for The Butterfly Trust. This was a new experience as I have never done anything like this before but my brother and sister loved music, dance and fashion as much as I did. It was held at the Assembly Rooms, George St, Edinburgh and over 320 people came. It was a huge success with the help of friends and unbelievably kind and generous people we managed to raise a staggering £4,580.00 for The Butterfly Trust. I organised another show in August 2010 and this time we raised £5,040.00 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (Registered Charity No.(Scotland)SC40196. www.cftrust.org.uk) to help fund research to treat and cure CF and aim to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with CF.
